The Commission was established to administer the city’s 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness as part of a national effort. Government officials, community leaders, and service agencies examined the many complexities of homelessness in Nashville. The plan’s vision is to eliminate chronic homelessness in Nashville by ensuring access to safe, affordable, and permanent housing with a comprehensive array of supportive services.

I started paying attention and being sensitive and sure enough I noticed folks when I was in the library yesterday who needed to be warm more than anything else. Furthermore, when I reflect on my recent travels in Boston, San Francisco and Washington, I bear witness to chornic homelessness also found in New York.
As folks approach strategies for housing the faith community can help as many who have lived on the streets for a long time lack friends and a support system to help them navigate the basics. A group of physicians who treat homeless folks on the street give first hand accounts that when they help folks find housing (people need homes and groceries for medical treatment to be effective) they also needed a network of support to help with the basic activities of daily living. Many couldn’t sleep in beds at first and made their beds on the floors of their apartments.
It’s a national challenge needing a our prayers and support.
